Amazing Science Fiction Stories (September 1955) (code d0sfs55) is an outstanding example of the interesting and wildly imaginative fiction that graced the pages of some of the best science fiction magazines in the first half of the 20th century. Originally published in 1955 as volume 263 of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, it was brought to a wider readership when it was reprinted over a decade later in The Annual of Fantasy, number 3 (edited by me and published in November 1966 under the title The Annual of Fantasy 1965). It has been out-of-print for decades, making copies available extremely difficult to find. Over 30 years after my death in 1997, I am proud to be able to bring you this beautifully crafted ebook (which features a cover I painted specially for this publication as well as new interior illustrations by Darrell K Black and a rear cover illustration I painted just because it’s fun to paint!) that reprints the magazine version, which was itself based on a novella entitled “The Axe” which I originally published in Amazing Science Fiction Stories in 1954, with wonderful illustrations by Kelly Freas.
