This is a PDF copy of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, translated by Edward Rochie Hardy and edited by Charles W. Hedrick. The book contains commentaries on the text of this Gospel written by the authors and others, including Benedict XVI and Elaine Pagels.

The first of the gnostic texts to be discovered, this is an early Christian gospel and continues to be a celebrated work in its own right. The text opens with Mary Magdalene telling the story of “another Mary” who meets with Jesus after the crucifixion; their conversation sheds light on the nature of perpetuators and victims in religious conflict throughout history.

The Gospel of Mary is a pseudepigraphical text written in the early 2nd century. It is attributed to Mary Magdalene who, according to the synoptic gospels, was one of the first disciples of Jesus. The codex was discovered in Cairo around 1895 and first translated into English by Sidney P. Abbott (1897 – 1899).

Gospel Of Mary Magdalene Overview

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene is one of the many gospels that were written about Jesus. It was found in Egypt in 1882 by an archeologist who was excavating a cave along the Nile River.

The gospel was written sometime between 60 and 100 CE, meaning it was written sometime after Jesus was crucified but before his canonization as a Christian saint.

In this gospel, Mary Magdalene is depicted as the leader of a group of disciples who go on to become apostles themselves. She also has several visions and revelations from God that are not included in other gospels.

The reason why this gospel wasn’t accepted by early Christians is because it portrays Mary Magdalene as the leader of the disciples and Jesus’ first apostle‚ÄĒsomething that goes against traditional beliefs about who should be considered important figures in Christianity (i.e., men).
