Perhaps the most thematically coherent writer of early twentieth century horror fiction is H.P. Lovecraft, who created a fascinating and maddeningly complex mythology in a myriad of short stories and novellas published from 1917 to 1936. All that remains of this literary legacy are the compilations of E. Hoffman Price, August Derleth, and Donald Wandrei; but much work has gone into compiling the proper order in which these stories should be read.
The Unnamable is a novella by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, written in February–March 1923. It was first serialized in the November 1923 issue of The Wolverine, and published under the present title by Weird Tales in April 1925.
