Cognitive science is the study of mind and intelligence, embracing concepts from philosophy, cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, linguistics, neuroscience and information theory. In this thesis paper I am going to examine three aspects of cognitive science: firstly cultural or collective intelligence as portrayed by author James Surowiecki in his book “The Wisdom of Crowds”. Secondly I will explore Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and the paths towards it in this paper. Thirdly I discuss consciousness and capacity of living beings by looking at specific case studies such as the amoeba — or slime mould — which is considered to be one of the most primitive life forms on earth. By looking at these three aspects we can find out about how our mind works and also how we interact with each other as well as explore our potential to create AI that could think like a human being.
