The Sacred Name Bible is an English language version of the Holy Scriptures published in 1898. It was authored primarily by Benjamin Wilson, who in the late 19th century lectured throughout England and Wales, advocating for the restoration of God’s original names in the English Bible. In 1896 he was sent copies of the New Testament translated into Hebrew (Old Testament) and Syriac (New Testament) by C. I. Schofield, along with a set of questions regarding why he thought “Jehovah” and “Adonai” were mistranslated in these languages; Wilson wrote back to Schofield that God’s name should be “Yehowah” and “Yehowih”, based on John 4:26; he later made his case publicly known in a lecture at a meeting to be held on October 15th, 1896 at the Masonic Temple, London.
