The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction is an encyclopedia of science fiction first published in 1979. It contains over 4500 articles on themes, authors, books, film and TV productions, organizations, magazines and more. The second edition was begun in 1993 and completed in 2017. Wiscon takes place annually in Madison, Wisconsin for five days each summer.

Encyclopedia of Science Fiction is a book written by John Clute and Peter Nichols. The book is a reference work on science fiction, first published in 1993. It describes and provides short quotes on writers, books, films, comics and games deemed to be within the genre of science fiction. The first edition had over 2,500 entries; the second edition over 3,000. According to Clute, “the idea of an Encyclopedia of SF was proposed in my presence more than twenty years ago”; both he and Nichols became involved in the project at “the suggestion of David Pringle”.
