Preface: To begin with, I’d like to begin with a disclaimer: I am in no way an expert on Virginia Woolf; however, over the past few months, I have completed a Modern Fiction module at my university and chose to write my dissertation on Woolf. While I can’t make any claims to be an authority on her work (or life), I did do a lot of research for my paper and what follows is my reworking of it.

The Virginia Woolf Modernist Short Story Podcast is a thorough examination of the work of two modernist female authors, Virginia Woolf and Katherine Mansfield. The episodes are beautifully produced and include discussion of literary themes, literary devices, biographical elements; and most importantly analysis of the works themselves: their characters, dialogue and plotting.

Virginia Woolf was one of the most influential modernists of the 20th century. Her writings contributed to the shift from realism to twentieth-century modernism in literature. The British writer is considered a major feminist figure and her essays are especially praised for their insightfulness. This page contains links to many free PDF books by Virginia Woolf, the first three being novels. Although these copies may have some formatting issues and lack images, they are otherwise complete. While these links are largely intended for educational purposes, these free versions can be used by anyone wishing to read free versions of Woolf’s works as an alternative to purchasing an edition.
